Sarah and I went to Auburn Hills, Michigan this last weekend to participate in their Pickleball tournament. The tournament was outside at the Senior Community Center, but in case of rain they had indoor courts ready for us. Saturday was a scorcher with terrible humidity as Sarah played in the Women's Singles. This was her first time playing in a Singles tournament, and she held it together and played well for not having swung a paddle in a month.
Sunday morning I played in the Mixed Generation Doubles with Tom. Mixed Generation means there are twenty or more years age difference between you and your partner. There were a couple father-daughter teams, and many father-son teams. Tom usually plays with his daughter, but she is currently pregnant so he adopted me for a day. Tom and I did fairly well, we managed to claw our way to 4th place and win the consolation bracket after 9 games.
Sunday afternoon Sarah and I played in the Women's Doubles, which was a round robin format. Unfortunately, there wasn't anyone else signed up in our age bracket, so they bumped us up to the next older age bracket. We played well considering our lack of practice time together and I was very pleased with how well Sarah played. We had a re-match of some women that we played in Kalamazoo, one of which is a tennis instructor. We managed to get a game off of them as we strategically took our two allotted time outs to get into their heads!
